Electric motors and electronic music. Diriyah Season kicks off.
The Diriyah Season kicked off to the sounds of electric motors and electronic music this weekend. The second staging of the Diriyah Formula E Prix was held on the streets surrounding the old city and saw Alex Sims of the BMW team take victory. Darkness brought the first acts of the Diriyah Music Festival to take over the entertainment duties, with Clean Bandit, Imagine Dragons and Alan Walker making their Saudi debuts.
Running in parallel with the recently extended Riyadh Season, Diriyah will play host to a spectacular and diverse series of events encompassing sports, culture and entertainment. So far announced, the music festival will feature Pitbull, Shaggy and Don Omar on November 29th with Lil Wayne, Tyge and Future following on Nove
mber 30th. More acts are due to be announced for December 6th, 13th and 14th.
For sports fans the schedule continues with the Clash on the Dunes
heavyweight boxing match on December 7th between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz. Saudi's first professional tennis tournament, the Diriyah Tennis Cup begins on December 12th for three days and features grand-slam winning players. Those with an interest in Equestrian sports will be able to choose from December 12-14th or 19th-21st to attend the Diriyah Equestrian Festival which features show jumping and other equestrian competitions and is expected to attract some of the worlds best.
Culturally, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in 2 major themes during the Diriyah Season. Running from November 24th to December 21st Bujairi Experience will celebrate the best of local and Arab designers and also bring some of the worlds leading restaurants with pop-up premises including La Petite Maison and Matsuhisa. Diriyah Oasis from November 24th to December 22nd is a huge Cultural Entertainment zone focused on combining the historical significance of the district with cutting edge experiences that educate and entertain.
